Sound Design

Tomita made a lot of effort in acquiring the sounds for his compositions, as stated there was a big difference in early synthesizers to modern digital synths or keyboards. His pallet of sounds came from what are known as patches, using patch cables to connect the various modules of the synthesizer together. These modules played different roles such as the oscillator, filter and envelope.

The Moog didn't have a memory bank so it couldn't recreate the same sound, but it can generate an almost limitless number of sounds. And synthesizers are something that are still evolving. It went through a transition from analogue to digital, but newer generations of Moog synthesizers still carry the same analogue DNA inherited from the original Moog’s.” (Matsutaki) [1]
